ONE UPH Library and UPH International Relations: Mendeley Reference Manager Class

ONE UPH Library together with the International Relations Study Program held an educational class for new students of the academic year 2025/2026. The session delivered by Meri Puspita Sembiring and Nicholas Sio Pradiva as the Reference & Instructional Staff of The Johannes Oentoro Library gave a brief introduction to plagiarism, one of the issues and elements of academic integrity violation along with tips and tricks to avoid it. New students were also introduced to Mendeley Reference Manager which is intended as a supporting tool in the academic process, especially to give credit to the authors of cited scientific works as well as to avoid the possibility of committing violations of academic integrity, plagiarism. Elsevier and ONE UPH Webinar: Avoiding Predatory Journal

On Thursday, September 18, 2025, ONE UPH Library, in collaboration with Elsevier ScienceDirect, held a webinar entitled “Avoiding Predatory Journal” as a part of Elsevier’s Capacity Building Training Series. In this session, delivered by Dr. Johan Jang, introduced predatory journals as a form of misconduct within the academic community. These journals are not built on the spirit of advancing knowledge but rather on maximizing profit. They often attract students and inexperienced researchers due to the ease and speed of their publication process. However, submitting articles to predatory journals can lead to serious consequences, not only for the individual author but also for their institution, country, and the academic discipline with which they are affiliated. In response, Dr. Johan shared some useful tips to avoid predatory journals, such as: (1) Check the listed editor’s name and ensure they have a relevant background in the journal’s subject area; and (2) Verify the publisher and confirm that it is genuinely affiliated with the journal. Dr. Johan emphasized that Elsevier ScienceDirect is committed to maintaining a healthy academic ecosystem by addressing predatory journals.
