The Johannes Oentoro Library (UPH) held a series of event with “Smart Literacies for a better life" in March – May 2021. The events, all held online on the wake of social distancing rules for COVID-19 pandemic, includes several webinars, trainings, workshop, and a video essay competition, using various online tools such as Zoom, Google Drive, Microsoft Teams and the like. This event is sponsored by Canon, EBSCO, McGraw-Hill, and JSTOR.

We held 6 webinars with a wide variety of themes, with speakers from all sorts of backgrounds. The webinars amassed 855 audiences in total.

TRAINING OF TRAINERS

This event, held on 27th - 28th April 2021, are joined by 108 participants from Sabang to Merauke. The purpose of this training is to become a capable instructor of information literacy, including making a lesson program in both synchronous and asynchronous system. All participants are encouraged to design the lesson plans as creative as possible, and expected to apply that into practice.

WORKSHOP

There are 2 workshops held in this event joined by a total of 471 participants.

The first workshop is "Citation Model and Bibliography Management Workshop" on April 13th 2021 with Dhama Gustiar Baskoro, S.S. MPd. as the speaker. This workshop train participants to know various types of citations and the differences, and then introduce them to a free reference management software, Mendeley. From this event, participants are expected to be able to use Mendeley proficiently and know the basic of citation.

The second workshop is held on 5th May 2021 about "Creating Learning Content with Podcast and YouTube media Workshop" with Gidion Indra Saputra, S.Pd, B.Ed. The participants are introduced the basic of video and audio auditing to support making learning content as Podcast and YouTube videos. With this event, participants are encouraged to develop their creativity in making teaching materials.

Universitas Pelita Bangsa Library Visitation

Date: 03 July 2025 Venue: The Johannes Oentoro Library, Lippo Village Description:  Today, July 3, 2025, Johannes Oentoro Library had the opportunity to receive a visit from Pelita Bangsa University Library. In his speech, Pak Hendra Thamrindinata as the first Vice President of Universitas Pelita Harapan expressed his hope for the library as a unit that is able to increase the understanding of the academic community (teaching lecturers, academic staff, and students) towards literacy while encouraging a love of books in the campus environment. Pak Dhama in the discussion also emphasized the paradigm shift of libraries and librarians from a passive role as information and collection managers to a more active role through active learning of various technologies including artificial intelligence-based technologies that emerged as the spirit of the 21st century so that libraries and librarians are still relevant and needed in society. During this visit, the two libraries exchanged ideas, experiences, and knowledge with the same goal of improving the quality of library services not only in the campus environment but also bringing bigger dreams, namely to contribute to advancing libraries in Indonesia. ...

ONE UPH Library and HRD UPH Workshop: Research Publication Activity Support Development Program Batch 2

Date: 02 July 2025 Venue: MYC 2nd Floor, Lippo Village Description: The rapid development of technology has introduced various artificial intelligence (AI) tools designed to support the academic writing process, making it more effective and efficient. In response to this, ONE UPH Library, in collaboration with UPH HRD, organized a workshop focused on introducing AI tools that can assist in different stages of academic writing. The session covered several AI platforms, including ChatGPT, Elicit, Perplexity, Consensus, and Scispace for generating ideas and drafting articles more efficiently; ResearchRabbit and Connected Papers for discovering academic literature relevant to research topics; ChatPDF, PopAI, and DocAnalyzer to assist in reading and analyzing scientific papers; as well as Grammarly and Quillbot for improving grammar, structure, and overall writing quality. This workshop aimed to equip participants with the practical skills to utilize these AI tools for idea generation, literature discovery, article analysis, and enhancing writing accuracy and style. Participants showed great enthusiasm throughout the session and left with not only new knowledge and skills but also increased confidence and motivation to integrate AI tools into their writing process, enabling them to produce academic work more effectively and efficiently. ...

Library Annual Event 2025 - A Mind of Excellence: Upholding the Integrity

Date: 16 - 20 June 2025 Venue: ONE UPH Library (Jakarta, Medan, and Surabaya) Description: This year, the library hosted LIBANEV with the theme of "A Mind of Excellence: Upholding the Integrity". As an annual event spanning the 2024/2025 academic year, the library organized a webinar titled "Integritas Akademik dalam Perspektif Alkitab," which explored academic integrity from a biblical perspective. The webinar featured two speakers and aimed to deepen the understanding of both students and lecturers regarding academic integrity and how this value can harmonize with biblical teachings. In addition to the webinar, the library also organized a talk show that discussed librarians' role as key pillars in upholding academic integrity. This event helped current and aspiring librarians recognize their crucial responsibilities in maintaining academic standards within their institutions. LIBANEV also included two competitive events. The first was the Scholar Integrity Quest, an educational game show designed to teach information literacy and academic integrity. This event was held in collaboration with the Communication Studies Department of UPH, with two classes participating in a one-day game show experience. The event successfully engaged students in a fun and interactive way, enhancing their understanding of key topics, particularly as they prepared for their final papers. The second competitive event was the Public Service Announcement (PSA) Competition, themed "Kearifan Lokal pada Masyarakat Multikultural" (Local Wisdom in a Multicultural Society). This national competition invited university students across Indonesia to submit their best PSA projects in video format. The Library Celebration Week culminated with an appreciation event dedicated to all participants, particularly the winners of the previously held, Public Service Announcement (PSA) Competition. Each winner from the various categories, including the Top Patron (Most Book Borrower), received appreciation prizes in recognition of their outstanding achievements. Ezra Training Program: Empowering School Libraries, A Story of Growth Through Training

Date: 26-28 May 2025 Venue: The Johannes Oentoro Library Description: To strengthen the vital role of school libraries in education, the One UPH Library recently held a special training program for Teacher Librarians called the Ezra Training Program. The training brought together passionate educators from various schools who share a common mission—transforming their libraries into thriving centres of knowledge, creativity, and literacy. Held on 26-28 May 2025 at The Johannes Oentoro Library, the training provided a space where theory met practice. From early morning sessions to engaging group discussions, the atmosphere was filled with energy and enthusiasm. Participants were eager to learn, connect, and find new ways better to serve their school communities through effective library management. Pak Hendra Thamrin said in the opening session that literacy services are still crucial in this A.I. era. "We knew there were a lot of tools to help us with our research, but humans still cannot interchangeable, and in Christianity, we are taught to not only boast of our conduct, but we need to learn more within the bible; as this program called Ezra who called in the Bibles as the priest and scribe of the Law of the God of heaven (Sofer) we as Christian need to deep our literacies skills," Pak Hendra said. He also mentions that Pak Dhama and Its teams have contributed significantly to literacy, especially in Indonesia. “In this AI era, teacher librarians are irreplaceable and a good effort to anticipate, to direct, and to give the best literacies services in every library, cause it still relevant to this age", Pak Hendra said. The Ezra Training Program focused on several key areas: information literacy, library promotion, cataloguing, circulation systems, and the broader principles of managing a school library. These are not just technical skills but essential tools for turning a quiet room full of books into an active learning hub for students and teachers alike. Behind the scenes, a team of dedicated trainers—experts in library science and education—guided the sessions carefully. They didn't just present slides or instructions; they shared experiences, sparked ideas, and created an environment where every question mattered. Through hands-on activities and real-world examples, the trainers helped participants grasp the "how" and the "why" of good library practices. The heart of the event lay in its purpose: to empower. School libraries are more important than ever in today's fast-changing educational landscape. They are gateways to digital literacy, information skills, and independent thinking. With this training, the organizers hoped to ignite a sense of confidence and inspiration among Teacher Librarians and help them realize that they are not just keepers of books but leaders in learning. By the end of the training, participants walked away with more than just new knowledge. They carried fresh ideas, practical tools, and a renewed sense of purpose. Most importantly, they left knowing they were part of a larger story—a community of educators working together to shape the future of school libraries, one book, one student, and one idea at a time. ...

Libanev 2021: Smart Literacies for A Better Life
