Four of their librarians were introduced to The Johannes Oentoro Library profile and its latest development and library practices.

Description:

The Johannes Oentoro Library held an Information Literacy Board Game Competition on 19th June 2019. 

All participantsThe Game, called Wide Wit War, are played by 9 groups of 3 people in 2 board, each battling each other on the board game using information literacy skills and board game strategies.

To play, the groups can collect gold, then buy tools to help them ready to face other challenges. A group has 5 Life Points which if they run out of, they will be eliminated. They could risk their life points to declare war to other groups, being pitted against each other in a timed information literacy challenge which will earn the winning group 2 Victory Points.

Or if they prefer a safer method, they could save up to buy weapons used to slay hell beast and then use the gem they get from the beast to receive a mission - where they must complete information literacy or physical challenges within a time range - which will earn them up to 3 Victory Points.

The winner is the one with most Victory Point or the last group standing.

 

After fierce wars which result in 2 groups eliminated, and countless missions the game comes to an end.

Description:

Communication Education is an event held by Himpunan Mahasiswa Program Studi Ilmu
Komunikasi Universitas Pelita Harapan (HMPS ILKOM UPH) to help UPH students with basic academic skills like writing and conducting presentation. The Johannes Oentoro Library are invited to be the speaker for Writing and Plagiarism workshop.

The participants are guided to write an academic article about "The Effects of Video Games" using databases that are subscribed by the library and to how to avoid plagiarism by using tools like reference manager. The reference manager that are utilized are Mendeley. In the end of the session, there are quizzes to test the participants' knowledge and skills that are gained from the workshop.

Description:

To welcome the World's book day on April, The Johannes Oentoro Library held a digital information and technology literacy competition!

Library Safari Competition is a treasure hunt game in which groups of participants from various major of Universitas Pelita Harapan compete to find the treasure using various clues and information literacy skills to solve challenges. There are 5 posts they need to overcome to be able to complete the competition. 


At the first and second posts, they need to gather information and then make a mind map about interesting tourism activities from a place in Indonesia that are given to them randomly when they arrived at the post. 
The third and fourth posts test their teamwork and problem solving skills as they need to overcome physical challenges and tricky plagiarism questions to be able to advance to the last post. Meanwhile, they also have to develop the information they have gathered into a coherent synthesis. 
Last post is where they have to built an interesting infographic that highlight the tourism of the area they got and according to the synthesis they have made and posted it to Instagram.  

The end results can be seen on Instagram with hashtag : #UPHLIBRARYSAFARICOMPETITIONUPH
The groups that use their information literacy skills well and have beautiful end results are announced as the winners!

Venue  : Sekolah Lentera Harapan Curug, Tangerang.

Description:

As a part of “Reading Week” event held by Sekolah Lentera Harapan Curug, The Johannes Oentoro Library team was invited to facilitate seminars and brought some collections for the book stand exhibition which is open for all students during the event. There are two seminars for different group of students. The seminar on “Hoax Awareness” was delivered for secondary school’s student (SMP and SMU), while the “Reading Interest” was organized for lower grade students (3-6 graders).

The main objectives of this event are to elevate student’s reading habit and develop the information literacy attitude as they learn how to choose the good reading, detect and filter the information wisely from various sources, on site (in a library) or online (internet) in order to produce the good academic writing.

More detail about the seminar, all secondary school students are invited to join a fun game about how to pass the information correctly in a group, watched the short presentation about avoiding hoax, and completed by giving reflection through a trivia quiz. Meanwhile in primary school the seminar was much more fun. Opened with a short video then continued with a short presentation and closed with a very enticing story telling.

Plagiarism & Reference Manager Mendeley Training

Date: 21th March - 24th March 2017

Description: Plagiarism is the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own. In education, plagiarism is a threat to academic integrity. To address the problem, the Johannes Oentoro Library has been committed to educating both lecturers and students through plagiarism and reference manager training. The training explains the boundaries between plagiarism and academic integrity and how to prevent plagiarism. This year's training was attended by 52 lecturers and 68 students from various faculties.

 

"Stop Plagiarism & Hoaxes" Seminar

Date: 29th March 2017

Venue: The Johannes Oentoro Library

Description: To help eradicate plagiarism and hoaxes in higher education, especially in UPH, the Johannes Oentoro Library also held a seminar to increase the awareness and understanding of plagiarism and hoaxes. The speaker, Dr. Henry Soelistyo, Sh.H., LL.M., emphasized the importance of  avoiding plagiarism and hoaxes in writing scientific papers. Not only it will harm our academic integrity, there are consequences such as formal warnings, failure to pass the current course/program, and permanent exclusion from the university (PERMENDIKNAS No.17, 2010). He further explained that plagiarism and hoaxes violate intellectual ethics and honesty and are an act of fraud to society. The seminar was attended by 29 lecturers and 71 students.

 

"Guide to Getting Published in International Journals" Workshop

Date: 29th March 2017

Venue: The Johannes Oentoro Library

Description: On 29th March 2017, The Johannes Oentoro Library held a "Guide to Getting Published in International Journals" workshop. From 10.30 AM - 12.30 PM, Mr. Irwan Sukardi, Business Manager of Emerald Publishing Indonesia, shared tips and tricks with the participants on the second floor of The Johannes Oentoro Library. The workshop was attended by 22 lecturers and 5 students from various departments across UPH. It's aim was to provide guidelines so students and lecturers can write professional articles that are peer-reviewed and accepted for publication by international journals.

 

"Education for Papua" Charity

Education is important to build a prosperous society. In addition to the "Stop Plagiarism & Hoaxes" campaign, as an act of support for education in areas that are still struggling with education, the Johannes Oentoro Library did a fundraise by selling t-shirts. The collected funds will be donated for education in Papua. Please contact us library@uph.edu if you would like donate.

During the Library Special Week, the LIBANEV 2014 held three small events such as Tree of Knowledge (Special Tanabata), Library Trivia Week and The Library Code's.

2. Library Webiste's Banner Design Competition

The winner of this competition  with "Welcome To the Open Access Era" theme were to be displayed on the library's website.

3. Semiloka Information Literacy

The Information Literacy training presented by the Library team with the topic "Plagiarism in the Era of Web 2.0 and Open Access" was open for public (charged) and UPH's academic community (free).

Description  : UPH Press and The Johannes Oentoro Library collaborated together to launch a translated Bahasa Indonesia version of "Letters to Lisa or Surat-surat untuk Lisa". Surat-surat untuk Lisa is a compilation of letters sent by Lisa's father, Dr. John Van Dyk to help Lisa on Christian teaching. This book covers conversation that intended to stimulate Christian teachers to reflect on their practice as teachers. Its purpose to help teachers see that everyday classroom practice is determined by our fundamental beliefs about education and about the Christian life, and to suggest ways of teaching in biblical way. Translated by Connie Rasilim, S.S., B.Ed., M.Pd., the co-founder of UPH Teachers College, hopes that the book will act as the handbook for Teachers College students, and continue to inspire people who are interested in Christian education.

Description  : As collaboration between The Johannes Oentoro Library and Teacher College, we conduct the Library Management internal workshop for TC students. This is a first time workshop of library management, which was delivered for TC students.

For about three days, the library team consist of 6 speakers and 3 additional supports engage a deep training on the wide range school library issues, such as: school library accreditation preparation and standards, installation of SLiMS, the use of SLiMS on books processing and acquisition, circulation module, user management module, Information Literacy, and also library promotion.

Description     : The Johannes Oentoro Library team held training for SLH Tabita librarian at Plumpang, North Jakarta. SLH Tabita is a school under Pelita Harapan Foundation (Yayasan Pelita Harapan) and the library has been set up for few years. The librarian is also a teacher and she is enthusiastically for this training.

Description  : UPH's Student Executive Board (BEM UPH) with The Johannes Oentoro Library hold a library training for the purpose of establishing a "Taman Bacaan" near a dump area in Sewan (TPA Sewan). This was a community service event and the purpose is to share our knowledge to society. There are 500 books donated to this "Taman Bacaan". Library helped to train the local on how to run a simple library system for the "Taman Bacaan". First, they need to make administrative book for members and the list of books. Then, we taught them how to input and arrange the book in a systematical order. Second, we briefly trained a simple way to classified books/collections and also how to make a catalog based on the 2 handbooks about classification (DDC) and cataloging the books that we gave to them. Finally, we helped them on how to processed a book starting from the wrapping, stamping, and coding. Thanks to UPH's Student Executive Board (BEM UPH) who also gave their time to help established the "Taman Bacaan" into a better place for the local children.
